Slab Leaks

Identifying If You Have a Slab Leak

The most common indication of a slab leak is a high water bill or damp spots on the ground floor of your residence. A less common indication of a slab leak is a warm spot in a certain area of your house. It is also not uncommon to hear a slab leak depending on the size of the leak.

Locating the Leak

Identifying a slab leak requires experience, skill, proficiency, and technology. The identification process is different in every situation. Our plumbers have a high skill set in regards to identifying the location in a close proximity. It often takes a combination of several different methods to approximate the location of the leak. The best way is with thermal infrared imagery and acoustic listening devices.

Slab Leak Repair

After the initial phase of detecting and verifying that it is a slab leak, it is likely that you will have several options.

  1. The first option is to identify the pipe with the pinhole leak, then reroute a new pipe above ground. This is the often times the least invasive way to repair a slab leak. This option often will only require sheetrock and paint after the pipe reroute.
  2. The second option is to narrow down the specific location of the pinhole in the pipe and make a direct repair on the pipe. This will most likely require jack hammering and will be fairly invasive in regards to flooring and molding.
  3. The third option is a total repipe of the house and place all pressure plumbing above the slab. This is the most costly of the three options, but guarantees a long term solution.

Insurance and Repair

Your homeowners insurance may or may not cover the cost of a slab leak. Every situation is different, but we will work with your insurance company and adjuster. Often times, your insurance will cover the damage associated with the leak and identifying the leak, but not the actual repair of the pipe.
